Today I finally made time to check out the demo of the fan made game Twin Peaks: Into the Night, which released on itch.io this August. Made as an homage to both the 90s pop-culture hit TV series Twin Peaks and classic videogames of the era, this short demo shows the love the Blue Rose Team have for the beloved show and have created something magical with their project.
taking an IP like Twin Peaks and creating a retro survival-horror from the universe is a great choice
Taking place primarily in the Calhoun Memorial Hospital of the fictional town of Twin Peaks, players take on the role of special agent Dale Cooper as he begins his investigation into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, and as we explore the hospital mysterious events begin to occur. As mentioned, this fan made game is built to resemble PSX titles and they have captured this perfectly through visuals, audio, interface, and controls prevalent in similar styled games from the era.
We’ve seen other great PSX ‘demakes’ in recent years, however taking an IP like Twin Peaks and creating a retro survival-horror from the universe is a great choice and I am excited to see how far the talented team can take this project. If you’re interested to check the demo out for yourself it is available for PC on the project’s itch.io page, and you can view the trailer for the project below.
